Hi, I'm Charlotte!

I started out studying people, and gradually found my way into designing how things work.

From studying people
From studying people

I started out studying Sociology, then moved into Cognitive Studies, trying to get closer to how people actually think and behave.

During Covid, I worked as a teaching assistant, which was the first time I really saw that in practice - how differently people process things, where they get stuck, and what helps things click.

After that, I moved into tech recruitment, which was a very different environment, but still centred around understanding people, what motivates them, and how they make decisions.

Into how things work

UX ended up being where that all came together.

Since then, I've been working at Ocado Technology across internal supply chain and fulfilment tools, as well as ecommerce features (across mobile app and web). The contexts are quite different, but I tend to gravitate towards problems that involve untangling complexity and making sense of what’s happening behind the scenes.

A lot of my work has focused on operational systems, understanding how things actually function day to day, where people get stuck, and how to make those workflows clearer and easier to work with. I enjoy working closely with engineers and product managers to understand constraints, challenge assumptions, and shape solutions together.

My approach

I’ve always been drawn to the space where human behaviour meets system logic. I enjoy untangling complex behind-the-scenes workflows and turning them into experiences that feel simple and intuitive to use.

Just as importantly, I enjoy the people side of the job. Alongside my day to day role, I love opportunities to get together with the team, whether that’s the wider UX community or my own team spread across the UK and Kraków. From helping organise our internal UX conference to team retros and knowledge sharing sessions, some of my favourite moments have come from connecting with people, sharing ideas, and spending time together beyond day to day project work.

UX Designer | Ocado

August 2025 to now

  • Led the end-to-end design and prototyping of a draft purchase order workflow, partnering with product and engineering to enable real-time supplier constraint validation and flexible delivery rescheduling.

  • Achieved a 50% feature adoption rate post-launch, with 86% of active users reporting that the workflow successfully enabled them to plan ahead, review, and adjust orders before submission.

  • Led the design of a purchase order quantity breakdown visualisation to show how system inputs, adjustments, and receipts contribute to final order totals, giving demand planners clearer calculation visibility.

  • Defined edge cases and system behaviours in collaboration with engineers, iterating on designs and supporting phased feature rollouts.

  • Collaborated with other UX designers to align data visualisation patterns and colour conventions across supply chain tools, helping create more consistent experiences across internal products.

  • Contributed to the Replenishment UX vision by exploring patterns and helping establish shared design principles across multiple supply chain products owned by different development teams.

  • Contributed to organising and facilitating Ocado’s annual internal UX conference, supporting knowledge sharing and achieving 86%+ satisfaction.

UX Graduate | Ocado

B2B - September 2024 to July 2025

  • Supported early concept platform exploration for a new supply chain platform by mapping workflows and prototyping concepts to shape how teams identify, investigate, and respond to live network issues.

  • Uncovered design overlap with an existing analytics tool; used workshops and stakeholder reviews to align cross-functional teams around an integrated product direction

  • Designed, prototyped and iterated operational tooling to improve visibility of employee activity, enabling managers to identify bottlenecks and rebalance work across areas in real time, resulting in a 15% increase in site productivity.

  • Worked closely with engineers and product managers to translate highly complex operational workflows into intuitive product features.

Ecommerce - September 2023 to August 2024

  • Contributed to core ecommerce experiences across mobile app and web platforms, including Delivery Pass subscription journeys and trolley management enhancements.

  • Led the design of the “Use-by date” badge to improve product freshness visibility at the point of delivery, helping customers manage inventory post-receipt.

  • Conducted user research and screened participants for a new Meal Planning feature to uncover genuine customer behaviors and motivations.

  • Reviewed competitor and internal ecommerce experiences to identify usability and accessibility opportunities, sharing actionable insights with design and engineering to inform product direction.

  • Synthesised research findings into personas and actionable product recommendations, presenting to senior product leads to guide design strategy.

Outside of work

Outside of design, I love travelling (especially visiting family back in South Africa), trying new restaurants, going for walks, doing pilates, and making the most of any sunshine the UK decides to offer. I’ve also recently got back into reading (currently, I'm on The Cuckoo’s Calling).
